Brenda Upton Photography bio picture

Welcome

Hi there!  And welcome to my blog!

I'm Brenda, and I LOVE my job.  Being able to do something for a living that never really feels like "work" is amazing.  I am a 2005 graduate of the University of Georgia where I studied art and photography.  Since then I started digging my heels into all areas of photography, trying to find my niche.  Once I tagged along as a second shooter at a wedding with a friend, I knew I had found it.  I love that I get to be a part of such an important day in people's lives and document it for generations to pass on.

Walter’s Barn Wedding | Lauren + Jimmy | Lula, Georgia

Lauren & Jimmy’s wedding back in June was one of my all-time favorites.  I had such a blast working with this gorgeous couple and their families at such an amazing venue: The Walter’s Barn.

When I meet with couple’s before the wedding I always suggest and encourage them to do a “first look”.  I’d say about half of my couples decided to go for it this year and I’m so happy this is becoming a new trend.  Not only does it give us so much more time to spend on portraits of the couple, we are also able to get most (if not ALL) of the family formal pictures done beforehand.  This means more time at the reception you spent all that time and money planning, and more time with the people who traveled so far to spend it with you.   Some couples are more traditional and I totally understand.  They are afraid they won’t have that moment where the groom sees you for the first time walking down the aisle.  But, I will tell you firsthand that of the weddings I’ve shot recently where the couple did pics beforehand, the groom was still (if not more) emotional and in awe of his beautiful bride coming down the aisle.   The nervousness is out of the way and you just have that pure moment of emotion between the two of you.

Lauren and Jimmy’s wedding also gave me another reason to push the first look.  Their wedding day weather was a bit scattered…one minute it was bright sunny skies, the next a downpour.  Since they did their first look earlier in the day, we had plenty of time for some gorgeous portraits before the rain came down.  I’m so glad they did!  Here are some of my favorites from the day.
